Phycotheca Boreali-Americana. Collins, Holden, and Setchell.; With Cystocarps. From the description given by Montagne (Ann. Sci. Nat., Bot., Series 4, Vol. XIV, and the figure of Suhr, Flora, Vol. XIV, Pl. I, fig. 8) of what Schmitz has called A. Montagnei, this species seems very close to it, and to be distinguished chiefly by the more pronouncedly serrate margin of the African plant.
